Key Properties of Fiberglass Geogrid

rovides strong reinforcement in both directions, typically 25–200 kN/m.

Maintains shape and stability under heavy loads with ≤ 3–4 % elongation.

Prevents reflective, thermal, and fatigue cracking in asphalt layers.

Performs reliably from −260 °C to +650 °C during asphalt paving and cold climates.

Polymer or bitumen coating enhances adhesion with pavement materials.

Withstands acid, alkali, and saltwater corrosion for long service life.

Maintains mechanical integrity under sunlight and harsh outdoor exposure.

Reduces maintenance frequency by distributing stress and preventing deformation.

Get to Know Fiberglass Geogrid

A fiberglass geogrid is a high-strength geosynthetic mesh made from alkali-free glass fibers coated with bitumen or polymer resin. It reinforces asphalt pavement and prevents reflective cracking.

It is widely used in asphalt pavement reinforcement, old road rehabilitation, airport runways, bridge decks, and slope protection to extend pavement life and reduce maintenance costs.

By distributing tensile stress evenly and reducing strain in asphalt layers, it prevents reflective and thermal cracking under heavy traffic or temperature fluctuations.

Fiberglass geogrid offers higher tensile modulus and better heat resistance, while polyester geogrid provides higher flexibility and better performance in soft-soil reinforcement.

Yes. It maintains structural integrity at asphalt mixing and paving temperatures above 190 °C.

Types & Material options of Fiberglass Geogrid

Fiberglass Geogrid (Glass Fiber Reinforcement)

Fiberglass Geogrid roll

Description:
Fiberglass geogrid is made from alkali-free glass fiber yarns woven into a stable mesh structure and coated with bitumen or polymer resin.
It is available in two types — self-adhesive and non-adhesive.
The self-adhesive type simplifies installation and improves bonding with asphalt surfaces, while the non-adhesive type provides better flexibility for high-temperature paving.
Fiberglass geogrid delivers high tensile strength, low elongation, and excellent crack resistance, making it the preferred reinforcement for asphalt pavement, bridge decks, and road rehabilitation.

Key Properties:

  • High tensile strength (25–200 kN/m) with ≤ 3 % elongation

  • Strong bonding with asphalt layers through bitumen coating

  • Superior heat and corrosion resistance

  • Excellent fatigue and crack resistance under traffic load

  • Lightweight, flexible, and easy to install

Functions & Applications:

  • Reinforcement of old asphalt pavement to prevent reflective cracking

  • Strengthening of cement pavement overlays and road base layers

  • Protection for bridge decks and airport runways

  • Used in slope protection, embankment stabilization, and soft-soil reinforcement

  • Suitable for cold and hot climate paving projects

Basalt Geogrid (Basalt Fiber Reinforcement)

Basalt Geogrid roll

Description:
Basalt geogrid is produced from continuous basalt fibers woven into a high-strength mesh and coated with bitumen or epoxy resin.
It features exceptional thermal stability, chemical resistance, and eco-friendly performance, operating effectively from −260 °C to +650 °C.
The material provides high modulus, low elongation (≤ 4 %), and excellent bonding with asphalt or concrete.
Basalt geogrid is widely used for crack prevention, cement reinforcement, and road and bridge protection, outperforming traditional fiberglass in extreme environments.

Key Properties:

  • High tensile strength (40–160 kN/m) with ≤ 4 % elongation

  • Excellent acid, alkali, and salt resistance

  • Strong thermal stability from −260 °C to 650 °C

  • Environmentally friendly and non-corrosive

  • Superior crack and rutting control under repeated loads

Functions & Applications:

  • Asphalt road reinforcement and overlay crack prevention

  • Bridge deck waterproofing and anti-crack layers

  • Cement and concrete wall reinforcement (e.g., GRC panels, EPS boards)

  • Tunnel lining, dam, and slope protection

  • Highway, railway, and port pavement stabilization

Fiberglass Geogrid Installation Guide

Fiberglass Geogrid Installation Guide

Fiberglass geogrids are available in two main types: self-adhesive and non-adhesive.
Self-adhesive grids can be laid directly on the prepared base surface, while non-adhesive grids are typically fixed using nails or steel strips.

Non-Adhesive Fiberglass Geogrid Installation Method
  1. Nail Fixing Method
When laying a non-adhesive fiberglass geogrid, first spray a tack coat on the existing layer.
Fix one end of the geogrid using a steel strip and nails. The nails can be driven in by hammer or nail gun.
Then pull the geogrid tight and straight, fixing it in sections of 2–5 m each.
For cement concrete pavements, segments can follow contraction joint spacing. Nails should be placed along the joints, ensuring both longitudinal and transverse directions remain taut.

  2. Overlap Length
The longitudinal overlap should be ≥ 20 cm, and the transverse overlap should be ≥ 15 cm.
The front sheet should overlap the rear one in the paving direction.

  3. Fixing Requirements
Do not hammer directly onto the fiberglass grid or drive nails through the grid strands.
If nails break or the steel strip loosens, re-fix immediately.

  4. Rolling and Stabilization
After installation, compact the grid using a rubber-tired roller to ensure firm adhesion to the base.
Strictly control construction traffic — vehicles must not make sharp turns, brake suddenly, or dump asphalt mix directly onto the exposed grid to avoid damage.

2. Self-Adhesive Fiberglass Geogrid Installation Method
  1. Preparation Work
Complete all crack sealing, pothole patching, base reinforcement, and leveling before installation.

  2. Surface Condition
The road surface must be clean, dry, and dust-free, with a temperature between 5 °C and 60 °C.

  3. Product Storage
Store the self-adhesive geogrid in a dry, ventilated environment to maintain adhesive performance.

  4. Precautions

  • Workers must wear gloves when handling the self-adhesive grid.

  • Cut around road markings or obstacles where necessary.

  • During laying, apply sufficient tension to prevent wrinkles.

  • Overlap lengths: longitudinal = 75–150 mm; transverse = 25–50 mm, with overlaps following the paving direction.

  • After rolling, only construction or emergency vehicles are allowed to pass; avoid turning or braking to prevent damage.

  • The asphalt overlay must be placed the same day as the grid installation, with a minimum asphalt layer thickness of ≥ 40 mm.

  1. Laying Methods
    (1) Mechanical Laying:
Mount the roll on a front-mounted unwinding frame on a tractor, with the adhesive side facing down.
Move forward slowly to ensure the grid is flat and aligned. Compact with a rubber-tired roller (1–2 passes), then apply the asphalt mix.
